Tottenham will look to close in on leaders Leicester City when they take on Aston Villa at Villa Park on Sunday afternoon.  

Spurs warmed up for the game with a hugely disappointing 3-0 defeat to Borussia Dortmund in the first leg of their Europa League last-16 tie on Thursday night.

Mauricio Pochettino made his priorities clear after resting several key men for the game in German so he’ll be looking for that decision to pay off at Villa Park this weekend.

Tottenham dropped five points adrift of league leaders Leicester with a thrilling 2-2 draw against North London rivals Arsenal last weekend but they can close that gap to just two points with a win over Villa ahead of City’s game with Newcastle on Monday night.

Pochettino should be confident of coming away with all three points as Villa are in a complete mess right now and are heading for the Championship as they sit rock bottom of the table on just 16 points, and a full 9 from safety.

Team news

Tottenham are expected to recall a number of key men to the starting eleven with Kyle Walker, Danny Rose, Mousa Dembele, Eric Dier and Harry Kane among those set to return after being rested in midweek.

Dele Alli is expected to be passed fit to play despite carrying a minor ankle injury but Jan Vertonghen and Clinton N’Jie remain unavailable for selection.

Villa will continue to be without Carlos Sanchez due to a hamstring injury while Jack Grealish and Libor Kozak are still sidelined with ankle injuries.

Jordan Amavi is out for the rest of the season with a serious knee injury while Adama Traore is also out with a broken foot.

Aston Villa 0-2 Tottenham: Villa are in complete disarray and the players looks like they have admitted defeat in their fight against relegation. Spurs will be hoping the Dortmund defeat won’t affect the players too much and I can see the North Londoners easing to a routine 2-0 win this weekend.
