Liverpool have been handed a welcome boost with striker Danny Ings stepping-up his recovery from a serious knee injury after training with the under-21’s yesterday, according to the Express.
Ings had made an encouraging start to life at Anfield having scored three goals in eight appearances since joining the Merseysiders from Burnley on a free transfer last summer.
However, the 23-year-old was initially ruled out for the rest of the season after suffering a cruciate knee ligament injury in training back in October just days after making his debut for the senior England team.
The striker vowed to come back stronger than ever and has worked tirelessly to try and make a swift recovery with the aim of making some impression before the end of the 2015/16 season.
Ings has now taken a huge step in his recovery with the Express reporting that he trained with the Liverpool under-21 squad on Thursday afternoon as the rest of the first team squad were in Spain ahead of their Europa League semi final first leg against Villarreal.
The former Burnley hitman could now rejoin training with the first team squad over the coming week as he bids to get himself fit before the end of the season – although he’s highly unlikely to have time to force his way in to Roy Hodgson’s thoughts for Euro 2016.
Ings made his return on the same day that a tribunal ruled Liverpool would pay Burnley £6.5m in compensation for his signature last summer, while the Clarets will also receive a further £1.5m in add ons as well as taking 20% of any future sell-on fee.
