It was heartbreak for Liverpool as Sevilla made history after coming from behind to beat Liverpool 3-1 and reclaim the Europa League trophy this evening.
Liverpool started brightly and took a deserved lead when Daniel Sturridge opened the scoring with a stunning effort as he curled home with the outside of his left-foot in the 35th minute.
However, Sevilla were a different side after the break and levelled things up just seconds after the restart when Kévin Gameiro tapped home from close range for 1-1.
The holders then took the lead midway through the second half as Coke finished off a lovely move as he curled home from the edge of the area for 2-1 in the 64th minute.
The Spaniard then put Sevilla in control as he fired past Simon Mignolet 6 minutes later to make it 3-1 giving Liverpool a mountain to climb during the final twenty minutes.
There was no comeback this time for Jurgen Klopp’s men so Sevilla secured their third Europa League in succession with a 3-1 win at the St Jakob Park.
