Manchester United have submitted an opening £30m bid after holding talks with Wolfsburg over a potential deal to sign Julian Draxler last week, according to the Daily Star.
Jose Mourinho is expected to be busy in the transfer market this summer after being confirmed as Louis van Gaal’s replacement last month and he’s already splashed out on Ivory Coast defender Eric Bailly as he looks to build a title-challenging squad ahead of next season.
The Portuguese coach is also understood to be on the look out for a wide attacking midfielder and widespread reports in recent weeks have linked the Red Devils with a move for Armenian international Henrikh Mkhitaryan.
However, with Borussia Dortmund reluctnant to cash-in on the 27-year-old, the Daily Star claim that United have now turned their attention to Julian Draxler and have tabled a £30m bid after holding talks with Wolfsburg officials last week.
The report suggests that the Bundesliga giants have made it clear they want to keep hold of the 22-year-old but may be forced to sell if Draxler makes it clear he wants to leave for Old Trafford.
Draxler only moved to the Volkswagen Arena just last summer after spending 14 years at Schalke where he progressed through the youth system before emerging as one of Europe’s hottest properties when he broke in to the first team in 2011.
The youngster enjoyed a solid first season with Wolfsburg having scored 9 goals and provided 8 assists in his 35 appearances and is part of the German Euro 2016 squad where he’s started in two out of their three games so far en route to the last 16.

We’ll have to wait and see how things develop over the coming days but I have a feeling that United will have to increase their offer if they want to persuade Wolfsburg to cash-in on the attacking midfielder this summer, but Draxler would be an excellent addition if they could pull it off.
