The summer transfer window is in full swing so we’ll bring you all the latest transfer rumours and gossip from around the globe. Today, Arsenal step-up their interest in Shkodran Mustafi…
The agent of Shkodran Mustafi has flown to Spain to hold negotiations after Arsenal entered talks with Valencia over a possible £25.3m deal for the defender, according to Sky Sports News.
Arsene Wenger confirmed earlier this week that he intends to bring in an experienced centre-back after Per Mertesacker was ruled out for five months with a serious knee injury which he suffered during a recent friendly with Lens.
Mustafi emerged as a potential target with the Daily Star reporting that Arsenal officials had made initial contact with the German international’s representatives about a possible move to the Emirates.
It looks like we’ve now stepped-up our interest as Sky Sports News are citing reports coming from Sky Germany that claim Arsenal are now in talks with Valencia over a potential deal for Mustafi’s signature.
The report suggests that while the 24-year-old’s release clause is set at £42.1m, Valencia are willing to do a deal that would see Arsenal pay £25.3m up front plus a further £8.4m coming in additional add ons.
No firm offer has been put on the table but Sky Sports claim that Mustafi’s agent has now flown to Spain to try and thrash out a deal that would see the defender move to north London this summer.
Following a two-year spell with Sampdoria, Mustafi joined Valencia in 2014 and has been a huge success at the Mestalla Stadium where he’s forged a reputation as one of the best centre-back’s in Spanish football.
He’s also a regular in the senior German set-up after representing his country at every youth level and Mustafi was part of Joachim Low’s squad at Euro 2016 this summer, where he scored against Ukraine in the group stages.
Mustafi may also qualify as ‘home grown’ having spent three years with Everton between 2009-2012 and while he’s predominantly a centre-back, the German is also capable of playing at right-back, so you can certainly see why Wenger is keen on bringing him to Arsenal.

Let’s see how things develop over the coming days but hopefully we can get a deal wrapped-up quickly as with Laurent Koscielny also expected to miss the opening weekend of the new season, we have limited options at the back for our huge clash with Liverpool.
