Arsenal Held Talks With Agent Of Liverpool Star About Surprise Deadline Day Move

Arsenal held talks with the agent of a Liverpool star about a sensational deadline day move to north London, according to reports.

The summer transfer window is now closed for another year but it’s not time to look back on those deals that didn’t go through and those that are being lined-up for the future. Today, Arsenal are linked with Daniel Sturridge….

Once again it was hectic another deadline day but perhaps one of the strangest rumours came from Goal who claimed that Arsenal were offered the chance to sign Liverpool striker Daniel Sturridge on loan.

Despite being fit, Sturridge appears to have fallen out-of-favour under Jurgen Klopp with Divock Origi and Roberto Firmino seemingly preferred in the central striking role by the Reds boss this season.

The 26-year-old has started just one of Liverpool’s four games so far this season and was unimpressed when Klopp opted to bring on Origi ahead of him during last weeks 1-1 draw at Tottenham Hotspur.

Even when he has played, Sturridge has been asked to play out on the wing – something the England international has publicly questioned – leading to suggestions there is a growing rift between player and manager.

There was even speculation during the summer that Sturridge – a boyhood Arsenal fan – may look for a move away from Anfield and Goal claim that the strikers agent made contact with Arsenal on deadline day to offer them the chance to sign the striker on loan.

The report doesn’t indicate whether the Gunners showed any interest but they do suggest that Liverpool would have blocked the move in any case – leading you to wonder why the agent bothered to contact Arsenal in the first place.

Gunners’ fans have been crying out for Arsene Wenger to sign a top class striker and while they did end up bringing in Lucas Perez from Deportivo La Coruna, no doubt the north Londoners would have loved to have seen a player of Sturridge’s quality come to the club.

However, there was virtually no chance that Liverpool would have allowed him to join a direct rival like Arsenal so the whole thing was a waste of time – if this report is even accurate.

Sturridge is now going to have to knuckle down in training and prove to Klopp that he deserves a place in his starting eleven or it could be a very difficult season ahead for the former Chelsea and Man City hitman.
