Liverpool Handed Double Injury Boost Ahead Of Leicester City Game
Liverpool have been handed a major injury boost after Sadio Mane reported to training with no sign of any issue following a scare while on international duty
Liverpool have been handed a major boost after Sadio Mane reported to training this morning with no sign of any issue following an injury scare while on international duty, according to the Express.
Despite Senegal already being qualified for the African Cup of Nations in Gabon, Mane was still selected to start in their latest qualifier against Namibia on Saturday night and the attacker gave Liverpool a cause for concern after being forced off in the 66th minute as Senegal went on to win 2-0 in Dakar.
It led to fears that Mane had picked up a knock and Jurgen Klopp was keen to find out the situation ahead of Liverpool’s huge Premier League clash against champions Leicester City at Anfield on Saturday night.
The Express claim that Klopp was so concerned that he phoned the player on Sunday to get an update but was assured by Mane that the substitution was not injury-related and was just precautionary.
The newspaper says that the 24-year-old reported for duty at Liverpool’s Melwood training base this morning with no injury or fitness problems so Mane is now expected to feature against the Foxes this weekend.
The news will be a welcome relief to Liverpool as Mane has been in excellent form since making his move from Southampton this summer having scored a superb goal against Arsenal on his debut before putting in another Man of the Match performance during a 5-0 League Cup win over Burton Albion.
In a double boost, the Express also suggest that Ragnar Klavan has bene passed fit after missing the Tottenham Hotspur game with a knee injury but Emre Can is facing a race against time to prove his fitness due to a foot injury.
None of Liverpool’s other international stars have reported any injury concerns yet during the international break and Klopp has also made special arrangements for Philippe Coutinho to return from Brazil duty on Thursday morning giving him as long as possible to recover from his long-haul trip ahead of the Leicester game.
