Liverpool Star Losing Battle To Be Fit For Leicester City Showdown
Liverpool ace Emre Can is losing his battle to be fit for Saturday’s clash with Leicester after missing training as he continues to recover from an ankle injury
Liverpool midfielder Emre Can is losing his battle to be fit for Saturday’s huge Premier League clash with Leicester City after missing training on Tuesday as he continues to recover from an ankle injury, according to the International Business Times.
The Germany international suffered an ankle injury during the Reds second round victory over Burton Albion in the EFL Cup last month and was forced to miss the 1-1 draw at Tottenham Hotspur before the international break.
Can subsequently withdrew from the German squad for their double header against Finland and Norway and remained at Melwood to continue treatment with a view to making his comeback against Leicester this weekend.
However, the International Business Times claim that the 22-year-old midfielder was still unable to train with the rest of his team mates on Tuesday afternoon.
Unless Can makes a swift recovery over the next couple of days, it appears highly unlikely that he’ll be available for selection when Liverpool welcome the champions to Anfield on Saturday evening for their first home game of the new season.
That would be a big blow as the midfielder has become a key figure in Jurgen Klopp’s starting eleven over the past 12 months. In Can’s absence, Jordan Henderson and Gini Wijnaldum are likely to continue in the middle of the park this weekend.
There is better news on the fitness of Sadio Mane as the attacker has eased fears he picked up a knock while away with Senegal after training as normal today.
Mane was substituted midway through Senegal’s win over Namibia last week sparking rumours he’d suffered an injury but he phoned Klopp to confirm his withdrawal was just precautionary and he’s fit to face the Foxes this weekend.
