Tottenham Team News: Key Man Ruled Out As Pochettino Hints At Changes
Mauricio Pochettino has offered a team news and injury update ahead of Tottenham Hotspur’s clash with Sunderland at White Hart Lane on Sunday afternoon.
Tottenham Hotspur will look to get over their disappointing Champions League defeat to Monaco when they entertain Sunderland at White Hart Lane on Sunday afternoon.
Ahead of the game, Mauricio Pochettino has been speaking to the media at his pre-match press conference this afternoon and he’s given reporters a team news and injury update.
Unfortunately the Spurs boss has confirmed a blow with the news that Danny Rose will miss the Sunderland game this weekend as he continues to nurse a hamstring injury.
Rose suffered the injury while away with England during the international break earlier this month and Pochettino suggests he’ll need at least another week before he’ll be available for selection.
That means not only will the left-back sit out Sunday’s game against David Moyes’ side but he’ll also miss Wednesday’s League Cup third round clash against Gillingham.
Otherwise Pochettino has a fully-fit squad to choose from but the Argentinean coach has hinted that he’s ready to rotate his starting eleven this weekend following Tottenham’s poor display during their defeat to Monaco on Wednesday night.
The Spurs boss is quoted as saying by the Ham & High:
“If all is going like so far I think maybe one week more and he will be available to be selected. Now it is about the feeling every day.”
“It’s true that after Wednesday I am thinking about rotating the team a bit, the starting XI. We’ll see what happens tomorrow when we assess all the players and take the best decision for the team.
“It was collective [on Wednesday] and it’s not focusing on some players. All season it’s difficult to play and when you play in the Champions League you expend a lot of energy. Maybe that, for us, is new – to handle playing Wednesday and Saturday or Sunday.
“In the last two seasons we always rotated the squad a lot when we played in the middle of the week in the Europa League. It is a new experience for us to learn and try to get a good result.”
In Rose’s absence, Ben Davies is expected to continue to fill-in at left-back while Moussa Dembele could make his first Premier League appearance of the season after completing his suspension last weekend.
