Tottenham Team News: Pochettino Rules Out Key Duo + Defender Faces Late Test
Mauricio Pochettino has confirmed a key duo will miss Tottenham’s clash at Bournemouth this weekend while another player will face a late fitness test
Tottenham will be looking to get back to winning ways when they take on AFC Bournemouth at Dean Court on Saturday afternoon.
Ahead of the game, Mauricio Pochettino has been speaking to the media at his pre-match press conference this afternoon and he’s offered reporters a team news and injury update.
The Spurs boss offered the latest on Toby Alderweireld after the defender missed Tuesday’s 0-0 Champions League draw at Bayer Leverkusen having picked up a knee injury against West Brom last weekend.
The Belgian international was stretchered off during the draw at the Hawthorns sparking fears he’d damaged his knee ligaments, which would have seen him ruled out for several months.
However, Pochettino confirmed earlier this week that the scan results were positive and the centre-back was only facing a short period on the sidelines – although he’s still not in contention to face Bournemouth this weekend.
The Argentinean coach also confirmed that Harry Kane has stepped up his recovery from an ankle injury that’s kept him out for over five weeks by starting ball work in training today.
Kane suffered ankle ligament damage against Sunderland last month but has made a swift recovery and while he’s still not available for selection just yet, he could be pushing for a return by the end of the month.
The final update from Pochettino regarded the fitness of Danny Rose and he told reporters that the left-back is suffering from a bruised foot and will need to undergo a late fitness test to see if he’ll be in contention for the trip to the south coast on Saturday.
Pochettino told reporters:
#thfc team news: Danny Rose has a bruised foot and will be assessed tomorrow. Kane and Alderweireld are both out.

#thfc Pochettino says Kane has started to touch the ball by himself today. Alderweireld's scan was clear but his leg is still painful.
