As the January transfer window fast approaches, speculation is rife as to which players will come and go from different clubs in the Premier League. But with the bookies and online free bet tipsters predicting increasingly shortened odds at the top clubs, it seems some deals may already be a forgone conclusion.
Liverpool
After Jose Mourinho made pointed remarks about his commitment, it seems that Luke Shaw is now out of favour at Manchester United. Rumour has it that the player has not taken kindly to Mourinho’s attitude, nor his public criticism. This has led to speculation that the England defender could soon be at Anfield.
Liverpool are interested in bringing in a specialist left back to allow James Milner to make his way back into midfield. While Milner has done an admirable job so far this term, Shaw would be an ideal replacement in that position. The Express reports that Shaw is keen on the move.
Manchester United
With word that Chris Smalling and Shaw may be leaving Old Trafford after their falling out with Mourinho, it seems the Red Devils may be in the market for defenders. Yet according to the rumour mill, the Portuguese’s main target is a right back.
A report in the Sun says that United want to bring in Benfica’s Nelson “Nelsinho” Semedo. The 22-year-old right back could replace Matteo Darmian, who many pundits believe could be on his way out of Old Trafford in the new year.
A number of news outlets are reporting that Mourinho’s number one target is French international, Antoine Griezmann. The Atletico Madrid striker could be the subject of a big-money offer in the of summer 2017.
In early November 2016, Sky Sports reported that after 13 appearances for Atletico Madrid this season, the Frenchman’s eight goals gave him an average of one goal every 136 minutes. This tally compares favourably with United’s current main striker, Zlatan Ibrahimovic, who at the time had scored one goal every 228 minutes for United.
Manchester City
Five-time Ballon D’Or winner Lionel Messi is being linked with a move to Manchester City after rumours that he is no longer happy in Spain after legal issues relating to his tax affairs.
The Spanish daily newspaper Marca claims that the Argentina superstar has indicated he will not be renewing his deal with Barcelona when it expires in 18 months’ time. Back in April this year, City reportedly offered the Argentine star £800,000 to link back up with Guardiola at City.
Yet while Messi was keen to stay at Barcelona at the time, City are now on red alert as the striker threatens to run down his contract until it expires in 2018. If Messi does wish to make the move, it is likely Barca will want to cash in before the striker becomes available on a free transfer.
West Ham United
As Chelsea’s Cesc Fabregas fights for his future at Chelsea under Antonio Conte, he may find a place at the other side of London with West Ham United. Considering that the Spaniard is struggling to adapt to the 3-4-3 system at Stamford Bridge, West Ham would seem a strange destination as the Hammers play a very similar style.
Yet with rumours of Dmitri Payet’s desire to leave the Olympic Stadium for Paris St Germain, West Ham may well be in the market for a creative central midfielder. In other rumours, Simone Zaza could be on his way to Napoli as part of a swap deal with Manolo Gabbiadini. Reece Oxford is said to be negotiating a new contract with the Hammers, despite playing only a few times this season.
Arsenal
According to Italian publication Corriere dello Sport, Arsenal could sell Jack Wilshere to AC Milan at the end of the season. The midfielder is currently on loan at Bournemouth and many doubt that he will return to the Gunners’ first team next summer.
Arsene Wenger has never hidden his admiration for Chris Smalling and it seems the Manchester United centre back could soon make his way to the Emirates after falling out with Mourinho. It is unclear at this stage whether this will happen in January or in the summer.
Everton
Toffees’ manager Ronald Koeman is said to be planning a raid on Manchester United with January moves for compatriot Memphis Depay and French international Morgan Schneiderlin. Talking about Depay, Koeman openly stated his desire to bring the young player to Goodison Park in January.
