Managers are now making plans for the summer transfer window so we’ll bring you all the latest news and gossip from around the globe. Today, Man Utd receive a boost in their pursuit of Antoine Griezmann…

Manchester United have been handed a major boost in their pursuit of Antoine Griezmann after the £87m striker told Atletico Madrid he wants to leave this summer, according to the Telegraph.

Griezmann has developed in to one of the best players on the planet since joining Atletico from Real Sociedad in 2014 with the forward scoring 83 goals and providing a further 25 assists in his 160 appearances so far.

The French international has been strongly linked with a move to United this summer with The Sun reporting earlier this month that personal terms had been agreed in principle over a £280,000-a-week contract.

Griezmann then fuelled the speculation by saying on French TV that there was a 6/10 chance he would move to Old Trafford this summer with the decision believed to hinge on United qualifying for the Champions League.

The Red Devils secured their place in the group stages after winning the Europa League last week and Griezmann then sent the rumour mill in to overdrive after ‘liking’ Paul Pogba’s Instagram video where the midfielder suggested his compatriot was joining him at United.

It appears the Manchester giants have now been handed a fresh boost in their pursuit as the Telegraph claim that Griezmann has now informed Atletico that he wants to leave the club this summer.

The newspaper says United are in pole position to sign the 26-year-old but Atletico insist they will need to meet the strikers €100 million (£87 million) release clause if they want to get a deal done.

That shouldn’t be an issue for United as they proved last summer with the signing of Pogba they are prepared to pay huge money to land their targets so I expect we’ll see Griezmann heading for Old Trafford over the coming weeks.

Jose Mourinho desperately needs to sign a top class striker as Zlatan Ibrahimovic is out of contract and ruled out for eight months with a knee ligament injury while Wayne Rooney is also set to leave this summer.

Griezmann would be a sensational piece of business if United manage to pull it off as he’s one of the very best strikers in the world and it seems the path is clear for them to get a deal done if this report is accurate and the player really has made it clear he wants to leave.
