Liverpool could be on a collision course with Barcelona as the Catalans are being tipped to hijack the Merseysiders £74m deal to sign Thomas Lemar, according to reports in Spain via the Daily Mail.
Relations between the two clubs have soured this summer following Barcelona’s relentless pursuit of Philippe Coutinho that’s led to the playmaker handing in a transfer request and faking an injury to get out of playing for the club.
Liverpool are refusing to do business for the Brazilian international despite his desire to leave for the Nou Camp but that stance could see Jurgen Klopp miss out on signing Lemar.
The Reds have been strongly linked with a move for the Monaco winger in recent days with L’Equipe reporting yesterday that Liverpool have tabled a fresh offer worth £74m in cash plus the option to take Divock Origi on loan.
However, it looks like the Anfield club could face stiff competition as the Daily Mail are citing a report from Mundo Deportivo that claims Barcelona are now eyeing a late move for Lemar.
The Spanish publication says the 21-year-old is one of three top targets being considered by Barca as alternatives to Coutinho as they look to bring in a top name before the window closes tomorrow night.
The other two players on the short-list are reportedly Paulo Dybala and Antoine Griezmann but Lemar is seen as by far the most easily attainable as Juventus and Atletico Madrid won’t sell their star men this summer.
That could spell bad news for Liverpool as if they continue with their refusal to sell Coutinho then it looks like Barca may try and hijack their attempts to sign Lemar.
Obviously joining a club like Barcelona would be a tempting prospect for the French international but the Spanish giants also have the funds to trump Liverpool’s offer following the £198m sale of Neymar to PSG.

We’ll have to wait and see how things develop over the next 24 hours but Liverpool will be hoping that Barca are only showing an interest in Lemar to try and persuade them to do business for Coutinho.
