Tottenham On Verge On Signing £40m Portuguese Star On Initial Loan
Tottenham are on the verge of securing a deal to sign Barcelona midfielder Andre Gomes on a season-long loan which could become permanent next summer,
Deadline day is here and managers are frantically trying to get those last minute deals over the line so we’ll bring you all the latest news and gossip from around the globe. Today, Tottenham are linked with Andre Gomes…
Tottenham are on the verge of securing a deal to sign Barcelona midfielder Andre Gomes on a season-long loan which could become permanent next summer, according to Daily Mail journalist Sami Mokel.
Gomes earned a big-money move to the Nou Camp last summer after impressing during a two-year spell with Valencia but his time with Barca hasn’t gone according to plan.
The 24-year-old struggled to hold down a starting place in Luis Enrique’s starting eleven last season and his chances of regular action under new boss Ernesto Valverde look just as slim this campaign.
It’s led to speculation the Portuguese international will be on the move and a switch to the Premier League has been touted with Tottenham joining West Ham in the chase for the midfielder.
Spurs have now emerged as the front-runners and journalist Sami Mokel claims on Twitter the north Londoners are closing-in on a season-long loan deal while the news is also in the Daily Mail newspaper.
Under the terms of the agreement, Mokel claims that Tottenham will be obliged to make the deal permanent and pay Barcelona £40m if Gomes plays 60% of their games this season.
He tweeted:
Tottenham should get Andre Gomes. Under terms of the deal Spurs will be obligated to sign him for £40m if he plays 60 percent of the games.

Mauricio Pochettino has left his transfer business until late in the window but the Spurs boss is seemingly keen on strengthening his midfield options ahead of their return to the Champions League.

If Gomes does complete his move, the Portuguese star will offer stiff competition to Moussa Dembele and Victor Wanyama in the midfield role this season and he’ll become Tottenham’s latest arrival following the recent signings of Serge Aurier, Juan Foyth and Davinson Sanchez.
