Philippe Coutinho was on target as Liverpool were held to a 1-1 draw by Spartak Moscow in their Champions League group stage clash in Russia this evening.
Liverpool went close to opening the scoring when Roberto Firmino saw a close-range header well saved but it was the hosts who went ahead when Fernando fired home a superb free-kick in the 23rd minute.
Spartak’s lead didn’t last long though as the Reds levelled things up less than 10 minutes later when Coutinho finished well to make it 1-1 following a lovely one-two with Sadio Mane.
Liverpool almost grabbed the lead just before half-time when they failed to take advantage of a four-man break-away while Coutinho went close with a second half free-kick.
However, they couldn’t find a winner so had to settle for a 1-1 draw which leaves them sitting joint second in Group E – two points behind leaders Sevilla after they beat Maribor in tonight’s other game.
