Arsenal are ready to end their interest in Liverpool target Thomas Lemar with Arsene Wenger turning his attention to Lyon attacker Nabil Fekir, according to the Mirror.
Lemar emerged as one of the hottest young attacking talents in European football after providing 14 goals and 17 assists to help fire Monaco to the Ligue 1 title last season.
The 22-year-old attracted plenty of interest from the Premier League in the summer with Arsenal and Liverpool both strongly linked with a move for the French international.
Monaco vice-president Vadim Vasilyev confirmed last month that Liverpool showed a keen interest and revealed Arsenal came closest to securing a deal to sign Lemar but a proposed £90m deal collapsed on deadline day.
Arsene Wenger was expected to renew his interest in the attacker next summer but the Mirror claim the Arsenal boss is now ready to end his pursuit and turn his attention to other targets.
The newspaper says interest from Champions League clubs such as Liverpool and Barcelona, as well as Monaco’s growing demands, is making any potential deal to take Lemar to the Emirates impossible.
Monaco are expected to cash-in at the end of the season and it will pave the way for Liverpool to snap-up the Frenchman if Arsenal do drop out of the race and Lemar opts to continue his career in England.
The Mirror say Lemar is now highly unlikely to end up at Arsenal so Wenger is now eyeing a swoop for Lyon attacker Nabil Fekir as an alternative target.
The 24-year-old is enjoying a superb campaign in Ligue 1 having scored 11 goals in 11 games so far and he could be viewed as the ideal replacement for Alexis Sanchez – who’s tipped to join Man City.
