Arsenal are ready to battle it out with Tottenham Hotspur over the signing of Watford’s £25m-rated attacker Richarlison, according to a report in the Mirror.
Richarlison has enjoyed an excellent start to life here in the Premier League since making an £11.5m move to Watford following an impressive season at Fluminense.
The 20-year-old scored his 5th goal in 12 appearances during the 2-0 win over West Ham yesterday and also bagged the winner during Watford’s 2-1 victory over Arsenal earlier in the season.
It seems it has left an impression on Arsene Wenger as the Mirror are citing a report form the Daily Star that claims Arsenal have now identified Richarlison as a potential replacement for Alexis Sanchez.
The Chilean international is in the final year of his contract and is set to leave the Emirates either in January or at the end of the season after failing to agree a new extension.
Richarlison would be a direct replacement for Sanchez as he’s predominantly played from the left wing but is capable of playing anywhere across the attacking positions if needed.
The report suggests that the Brazilian U20 international would be available at around £25m, which shouldn’t be a problem for a club like Arsenal as Richarlison would be a lot cheaper than some of the attacker’s they’ve been linked with.
However, the Gunners will face some stiff competition as the newspaper claims Tottenham are also chasing the South American winger so it seems the two North London giants are set for a transfer battle.
We’ll have to see how things progress over the coming months but if Richarlison continues to impress at Watford it’s only a matter of time before he joins a bigger club and it seems Arsenal and Tottenham are ready to lure him away from Vicarage Road.
