Wayne Rooney scored a second half penalty to earn Everton an unlikely 1-1 draw against Liverpool at Anfield this afternoon.
Liverpool dominated from the outset but wasted a number of good opportunities and had to wait until shortly before half-time before finally breaking the deadlock.
It was the in-form Mohamed Salah who got the goal once again, as the Egyptian international opened the scoring with a stunning left-footed curler in to the top corner in the 42nd minute.
Liverpool had a golden chance to doubled their lead just a couple of minutes later but Sadio Mane dragged his shot wide when he should have squared to one of three unmarked team mates in first half stoppage time.
The hosts continued to control the game after the break but couldn’t find that elusive second goal and they were made to pay when Everton were awarded a penalty in the 77th minute.
Dejan Lovren was adjudged to have fouled Calvert-Lewin in the area and Rooney stepped up to fire past Simon Mignolet and make it 1-1 from the spot.
Liverpool couldn’t find a winner so they had to settle for a 1-1 draw which moves them one point clear of fifth-placed Arsenal in the table.
