Arsenal take on Liverpool at the Emirates Stadium this evening. Here is a preview with the latest team news, line-ups and prediction
Arsenal entertain Liverpool at the Emirates this evening with both teams desperate to give their top four chances a major boost.
The Gunners head in to the game after booking their place in the semi-finals of the Carabao Cup with a 1-0 win over West Ham in midweek but their focus will now be on breaking back in to the top four in the Premier League.
Arsene Wenger’s men currently sit fifth in the table but with just one point separating them from fourth-placed Liverpool, Arsenal can leapfrog their rivals in to fourth with a win tonight.
However, an away victory would see the Merseysiders open-up a four-point advantage and put Jurgen Klopp’s men firmly in the driving seat to finish in the top four so it’s all to play for in north London.
Liverpool ran out 4-0 victors in the reverse fixture at Anfield back in August so Arsenal will have revenge in mind while the game will also see Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain face his former side for the first time since joining Liverpool on deadline day.
Team news
Arsenal will be without Aaron Ramsey as the midfielder is still nursing a hamstring injury while Olivier Giroud is also set to miss out after limping off with a hamstring problem against West Ham.
However, Francis Coquelin is available after shaking off a minor knock and Shkodran Mustafi is back in contention after recovering from a thigh injury.
Wenger is set to recall a number of first team players after resting the likes of Petr Cech, Laurent Koscielny, Nacho Monreal, Jack Wilshere, Alexis Sanchez, Mesut Ozil and Alexandre Lacazette in midweek.
Liverpool will be without Alberto Moreno as the left-back is still recovering from an ankle injury so he remains on the sidelines along with Nathaniel Clyne – who’s out with a long-term back injury.
Joel Matip is back in full training after recovering from a muscle injury but Klopp has suggested this game will come too soon while Daniel Sturridge is a doubt due to illness.
Expected line-ups
Predicted Score
Arsenal 2-1 Liverpool: It’s an old cliche but the first goal will be vital in this game. If Arsenal score first I think they’ll go on to win the game but if Liverpool nick an early away goal and make the Gunners chase the game then they’ll pick them off on the break. Arsenal have an excellent home record while Liverpool have been playing superbly well away from home recently so this is certainly going to be an interesting game. However, I have a feeling Arsenal will edge it.
