Liverpool threw away a two-goal lead before coming from behind to salvage a point in a six-goal thriller with Arsenal at the Emirates tonight.
The Merseysiders dominated the first half and opened the scoring in the 26th minute as Philippe Coutinho got on the end of a deflected Mohamed Salah pass to head over Petr Cech for 0-1.
Liverpool doubled their lead shortly after half-time as Salah’s shot deflected off Shkodran Mustafi and past Cech in the 52nd minute but that goal kick-started a crazy six-minute spell from the hosts.
Arsenal pulled one back immediately as Alexis Sanchez headed home from close range to make it 1-2 before Granit Xhaka lashed home a thunderous long-range striker for 2-2 in the 56th minute – although Simon Mignolet should have done better.
A rampant Gunners side took the lead in the 58th minute as Mesut Ozil cooly chipped over Mignolet following a neat one-two with Alexandre Lacazette to cap a hectic period that saw four goals scored in just six minutes.
However, Liverpool grabbed a point in the 71st minute as Cech could only palm Roberto Firmino’s effort in to the net for 3-3 as the top top four hopefuls shared the spoils in north London.
