Liverpool Team News: Reds Suffer Huge Injury Blow + Forward To Miss Leicester Clash
Liverpool have been dealt a major injury blow with a key man ruled out for a month while a forward will miss this weekend’s clash with Leicester.
Liverpool have been dealt a huge injury blow with the news that Jordan Henderson has been ruled out until February with a hamstring problem, according to the Daily Mail.
Henderson pulled up clutching his right leg during Liverpool’s thrilling 3-3 draw with Arsenal last Friday and it was confirmed after the game he’d suffered a hamstring injury.
Jurgen Klopp initially hoped the issue wouldn’t be too serious, however, it looks like the England international is now set for an extended spell on the sidelines.
The Daily Mail are one of several media outlets to report that Henderson underwent a scan to determine the full extent of the injury and a grade two muscle tear has been confirmed.
The newspaper says Henderson has been ruled out at the next four weeks meaning the midfielder isn’t expected back until the start of February 2018.
It means the 27-year-old will miss Liverpool’s next six fixtures including the FA Cup third round clash with Everton next week and the Premier League game with Manchester City in mid-January.
The injury is the latest setback for the Reds skipper, who has been plagued by a number of injury problems over the past two years, but the good news is he should be fit to return in time for the Champions League last-16 tie with FC Porto in February.
Henderson will be joined on the sidelines this weekend by Daniel Sturridge as the striker is still nursing a muscle problem that kept him out of the Arsenal game last week.
Sturridge has not featured since Liverpool’s resounding 7-0 Champions League win over Spartak Moscow due to illness and then a hamstring injury.
The England hitman won’t be ready to face Leicester City this weekend and Klopp isn’t sure when Sturridge will be available again. The Reds boss told Liverpoolfc.com:
“I’m not 100 per cent sure. Pretty much [everyone] so far came through the game,”
“Daniel Sturridge was ill and now [has] a little muscle thing. It’s not a big deal, to be honest, but in this period all these things keep you away from games.
“That’s not too cool for us, of course, but since yesterday not a lot [else happened].”
Liverpool head in to the weekend action sitting fourth in the Premier League table so they’ll look to tighten their grip with another victory over Leicester on Saturday afternoon.
