Klopp’s Team News Update: 4 Liverpool Players To Miss Leicester Clash
Jurgen Klopp has provided an update on Henderson and Moreno as Liverpool prepare to face Leicester without four of their players.
Liverpool will be looking to cement their position in the top four with another win when they take on Leicester City at Anfield this weekend.
Ahead of the game, Jurgen Klopp has been speaking to the media at his pre-match press conference this afternoon and he’s provided the latest team news and injury updates.
The Reds boss offered the latest on skipper Jordan Henderson and says he’s reluctant to put a time-frame on the midfielder’s return from a hamstring injury.
Henderson picked up the problem during the 3-3 draw with Arsenal at the Emirates last week and newspaper reports suggested the England international was facing up to six weeks on the sidelines.
Klopp says Henderson is back doing light running outside again and is on a ‘good way’ but his comeback will depend on how quickly the muscle heals over the coming weeks.
Henderson will therefore sit out the visit of Leicester tomorrow afternoon and he’ll be joined on the sidelines by Alberto Moreno as the full-back continues to recover from an ankle injury.
The Spanish international suffered the problem during Liverpool’s Champions League win over Sevilla at the start of December and was initially expected to be out until the end of January.
However, Klopp says the defender is a quick healer and although he’ll miss the upcoming games with Leicester, Burnley and Everton, Moreno could be back in time to take on Man City on January 14th.
Klopp told Liverpoolfc.com:
“It depends on the healing process and if the player is a quick healer or not. There are big differences between individuals.
“Hendo starts running outside today, [at] which pace and whatever we will see but he is on a good way. I don’t want to say any date because on the one side it would maybe put pressure on him, which he really doesn’t need, and on the other side it would look like we would not have the player for the next six to eight weeks and that’s not true at all. We have to wait.
“Hendo is a rather quick healer, he is on a good way and is desperate to be back on the pitch, so hopefully it is not too long.”
“He [Moreno] is probably the quickest healer in the squad but still I am not sure. He is [out of] the next two games and I think I should have to involve the third game as well [against Everton].
“Then we have around about nine days between Everton and [Manchester] City and that could be the first [game] for him then.”
Elsewhere, Daniel Sturridge is also expected to miss the game this weekend with a muscle injury while Nathaniel Clyne is also still out with a long-term back problem meaning Klopp will be without four players against Leicester.
Liverpool head in to the weekend action sitting fourth in the table but with Arsenal and Tottenham just one point behind they need to beat Leicester to cement their position in the Champions League places.
