Spotlight on the Top Premier League Teams
We take a look at how the top three Premier League teams are performing this season as we head in to the final third of the 2017/18 campaign
The Premiere League is in full swing and teams are gearing-up for their final push as we head in to the business end of the campaign. We all know English football is arguably the most grueling place to place football in Europe as there is no winter break and players have to deal with a number of cup competitions throughout the season. This year, they also have a World Cup to contest with as a number of Premier League players are expected to feature in Russia this summer.
As a result, coaches and management are stretched to keep their players motivated and fit for matches and betting on league games is often unpredictable. However, each top betting site are reporting record levels of action and that should continue during the coming months as the following teams battle it out at the top of the table.
Manchester City
Manchester City continues to sit atop the Premiere League table. The team has been superb accumulating a record of 23-3-1 while scoring a league leading 79 goals and allowing a league second lowest 20. The team is doing it with a balanced approach. Sergio Aguero took his season tally to 21 with a stunning four-goal haul at the weekend while Raheem Sterling has 15 goals – doubling his highest goal total ever already.
They are both benefitting from the creativity of Kevin De Bruyne as the Belgian star has been sensational this season and is going to be in the running for the Player of the Season. Meanwhile, Fernandinho has been impressive in front of the defence while Nicolas Otamendi has improved at the back.
With 11 matches remaining, the club is currently sixteen points clear of Manchester United following their defeat to Newcastle so nobody is going to stop City from winning the title.
Manchester United
Manchester United’s recent good form came to an abrupt end at St James’ Park at the weekend and they now face a battle to finish second in the table. Jose Mourinho seems to have lost some of his ‘mojo’ and is struggling to get consistent performances out of record signing Paul Pogba. United are also struggling in the big games this season as they’ve lost to Man City, Chelsea and Tottenham already this campaign.
United have conceded just 19 goals due to the brilliance of David DeGea in goal but they’ve managed to score 51 times with Romelu Lukaku scoring 12 following his summer move from Everton. They face Chelsea again in two weeks and then Liverpool two weeks after in what are sure to be critical matches.
Livepool
Liverpool sit third in the table with a record of 15-9-3 with the second fewest losses and at 61, the second most goals scored. The Reds recovered from their frustrating 2-2 draw with Tottenham by beating Southampton on Sunday and they are now closing-in on second-placed United. On their day, Jurgen Klopp’s team are a match for any side and they are the only team to beat City this season. However, Liverpool also have a tendency to drop silly points and that’s why they aren’t challenging for the title.
They are led by emerging star Mohammed Salah who is enjoying a sensational campaign having scored 22 goals following his summer move from Roma. Roberto Firmino and Sadio Mane are also dangers in attack but it’s at the back where Liverpool struggle as their defence lacks organisation while they need a world class goalkeeper this summer.
