The transfer window is closed but managers are working hard on their plans for the summer so we’ll bring you all the latest gossip from around the globe. Today, Liverpool and Man Utd have been boosted in their pursuit of Stefan De Vrij…..
Liverpool and Manchester United have been handed a boost in their pursuit of Stefan De Vrij as Inter Milan have denied their interest in signing the defender, according to the Mirror.
De Vrij has been one of the most consistent centre-backs in Serie A since joining Lazio from Feyenoord in 2014 while he’s also become a regular with the Dutch national team.
However, the 26-year-old is expected to leave the Stadio Olimpico at the end of the season as his contract expires in June and talks over an extension have failed to progress in recent months.
Lazio chiefs confirmed in February that de Vrij will leave the club on a free transfer at the end of the season after they gave-up trying to come to an agreement over a new deal.
Understandably, there has been no shortage of interest being shown in the defender with the Mirror reporting recently that Liverpool and Man Utd were keen to lure De Vrij to the Premier League.
It looked as though the duo had missed out as Inter Milan emerged as favourites but the Mirror is now citing a report from Mediaset that claims the Italian giants have denied they are set to sign De Vrij.
This has opened the door for Liverpool and United to resume their battle over the Dutchman’s signature as they look to snap-up the talented centre-back on a free transfer.
Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp has been linked with De Vrij for some time and he’d link-up with compatriot Virgil van Dijk if he opted for a move to Anfield this summer.
However, Jose Mourinho is also expected to be in the market for defensive reinforcements as Phil Jones and Chris Smalling are tipped to leave Old Trafford and De Vrij could be viewed as a long-term partner for Eric Bailly.

We’ll have to wait and see how things develop over the coming weeks but there is no doubt it will be a major coup for Liverpool or United if they manage to snap-up de Vrij on a free transfer.
