REPORT: Arsenal Line Up Shock Move For Tottenham Defender!
Sky Sports News is reporting that Arsenal are considering a shock move for Jonathan Woodgate, who just happens to belong to our fierce rivals Tottenham Hotspur. I would normally say ‘plays for our fierce rivals…’ but Woodgate hasn’t played for around 2 years so that wouldn’t be suitable!
Woodgate came through a practice match in midweek and apparently Wenger sees him as the man to fill the void left by the injured Vermaelen. If this is true, which i highly doubt, it is not only very worrying but a little embarrassing. With Arsenal still involved in all 4 competitions this season, and with 2 of our first choice centre backs out injured, the last thing we need is an injury prone player coming in!
This smacks of desperation from Wenger and i hate to say it, but just shows Gooners once again he isn’t willing to put his hand in his pocket and spend money on a proper player who will make a real impact. He is only looking for someone to ‘make do’. Not only that, he’s gone for a player who is about 6th choice at our bitter rivals down the road. Sure if he was fit he would start and he is a very good player, again, when fit. But the fact remains he cant stay fit and would not stay fit until the end of the season.
All Arsenal fans are dreaming of a Gary Cahill or Chris Samba type signing, a player of good age and someone who will only get better under the tutelage of Wenger. But now we’re being told Le Boss is in fact looking at a 31 year old who can’t stay fit longer than Robin Van Persie?! How depressing.
Spurs are willing to let Woodgate go on loan till the end of the season to regain fitness, with QPR being the likely destination, and its very unlikely Harry Redknapp will allow one of his players to join not only a North London enemy but a top four rival. But who knows, in the unlikely event this happens, Woodgate may come in and do a similar job to what Sol Campbell did last season. But am i wrong in thinking it would take Woodgate a few weeks to get match sharp? By that time Squillaci and Vermaelen will be back, so what’s the point?
