Arsenal & Liverpool Handed Boost As £88m Star Hints At Summer Move
Arsenal and Liverpool have been handed a major boost as £88m-rated goalkeeper Jan Oblak has hinted he could leave Atletico Madrid this summer
The transfer window is closed but managers are working hard on their plans for the summer so we’ll bring you all the latest gossip from around the globe. Today, Jan Oblak has opened the door to leaving Atletico Madrid…
Arsenal and Liverpool have been handed a major boost as £88m-rated goalkeeper Jan Oblak has hinted he could leave Atletico Madrid this summer, according to the Mirror.
Oblak has developed in to one of the best keepers in Europe since joining Atletico from Benfica in the summer of 2014 and he’s now an integral part of Diego Simeone’s starting eleven.
The 25-year-old has conceded just 14 goals in his 29 La Liga appearances this season, keeping 18 clean sheets along the way, and it seems his impressive displays have caught the eye of clubs here in the Premier League.
The Mirror claim that Arsenal and Liverpool have both been showing a keen interest in signing the Slovenian international as they look to sign new goalkeepers this summer.
Arsene Wenger is in the market for a replacement for Petr Cech as he turns 36 in May and has been showing his age this season with a number of high profile errors so Oblak is on the Gunners’ bosses radar.
Jurgen Klopp is also expected to sign a new number one this summer as Simon Mignolet has lost his place in the team and while Loris Karius has shown some promise, the Reds still need a more reliable stopper if they’re to become genuine title contenders.
The duo have now been handed a major boost as Oblak has cast doubt over his future at Madrid after admitting he doesn’t know if he’ll still be at the Vicente Calderon next season and played down talk he’s agreed a new contract.
Oblak is quoted as saying by the Mirror:
“It is difficult to talk about what will happen tomorrow, more difficult to say what will happen next season,”
“About a new contract at Atletico I can only tell you one thing – there is nothing new. That is the only certain thing.
“I know there have been many things written about how everything is agreed, and also the other way saying there will be no new contract.”
Oblak’s current deal runs until 2021 but the report says that contract includes an £88m release clause so there is little Madrid could do to stop him leaving if Arsenal or Liverpool agreed to meet that figure.

That would be a world record fee for a keeper but Oblak is world class and I think he’d be a superb signing for Arsenal or Liverpool if either club was able to lure him to the Premier League this summer.
