Liverpool are ready to offer RB Leipzig striker Timo Werner a bumper contract if he agrees to make a proposed £88m move to Anfield this summer, according to a report in the Express.
Werner has become one of the most sought-after strikers in European football after scoring 39 goals in 69 appearances since joining Leipzig from Stuttgart in 2016.
The 22-year-old has attracted interest from several top clubs with the Express claiming that Real Madrid have joined Liverpool in the race to sign the German international this summer.
Madrid have seemingly identified Werner as a potential target to replace Karim Benzema – who’s endured a difficult season – but the newspaper is citing reports coming from Don Balon that suggest the striker is edging towards Anfield.
The Spanish publication says Werner is being tempted by Liverpool as they are willing to offer him a lucrative contract if he agrees to snub Madrid in favour of a move to Merseyside.
This news comes as the Express also cite reports from Germany that claim Jurgen Klopp has already held talks with Werner’s agent and is prepared to test Leipzig’s resolve with a formal £88m offer.
Werner is still under contract until 2020 so Leipzig are under no pressure to sell this summer but Liverpool have experience in dealing with the Bundesliga club having already reached an agreement to sign Naby Keita in July.
The Reds have one of the most fearsome attacks in world football with Roberto Firmino, Sadio Mane and Mohamed Salah all impressing this season but Klopp knows he needs more depth if Liverpool are to compete on all fronts.

Werner would provide excellent competition for Firmino up front so I think he’d be a superb addition to the squad if Liverpool could get a deal agreed for his signature this summer.
