The transfer window is closed but managers are working hard on their plans for the summer so we’ll bring you all the latest gossip from around the globe. Today, Matthijs De Ligt is linked with a move to north London…
Tottenham are ready to battle it out with rivals Arsenal over the signing of £50m-rated Ajax centre-back Matthijs De Ligt this summer, according to a report in the Mirror.
De Ligt has been with Ajax his entire career having joined the clubs youth system as a child and he’s emerged as one of the most highly-rated defenders in Europe this season.
The 18-year-old has been virtually ever-present for Ajax this campaign while he’s also making his mark at international level with 5 caps for the Dutch national team so far.
The Mirror claim that De Ligt’s potential has caught the attention of Arsenal with the Gunners showing a keen interest in signing the teenager after sending scouts to keep an eye on his progress.
Arsene Wenger is expected to bring in at least one new central defender this summer as Per Mertesacker is due to retire while Laurent Koscielny has been hampered by an Achilles injury and it looks like De Ligt is on his radar.
However, Arsenal will now face stiff competition for his signature as the Mirror are citing a report from football.london that claims Tottenham have now joined the chase.
Mauricio Pochettino is lining-up potential replacements for Toby Alderweireld as the Belgian international is being tipped to leave this summer after failing to agree terms over a new contract.
The report says Spurs have identified De Ligt as a prime target and are now ready to go head-to-head with Arsenal over a deal to sign the Ajax captain at the end of the season.
