Arsenal are confident of signing long-term Liverpool target Piotr Zielinski as they prepare to meet the Napoli attackers £57m buyout clause, according to reports in Italy via TeamTalk.
Zielinski has been linked with a move to Liverpool ever since Jurgen Klopp first identified the attacking midfielder as a target when he took over the reigns at Anfield in October 2015.
The Reds reportedly came close to signing the Polish international two years ago but refused to meet his £12m asking price and Napoli eventually swooped in to agree a deal with Udinese.
Zielinski has enjoyed a mixed time in Italy as although he’s shown glimpses of his potential with 7 goals to his name this season, he’s struggled to hold down a regular starting spot in Maurizio Sarri’s side.
The 23-year-old has started just 12 Serie A games this season and it’s led to speculation he’ll push for a move this summer if he’s not guaranteed more action next year.
TeamTalk carried a report last month that claimed Jurgen Klopp had renewed his interest in signing Zielinski this summer as he looks to land a replacement for Philippe Coutinho following his move to Barcelona in January.
However, it looks like Liverpool have some stiff competition as TeamTalk are now citing a report from Il Corriere del Mezzogiorno that claims Arsenal are confident of securing a deal for his signature.
The Italian publication says Arsenal’s head of recruitment, Sven Mislintat, has identified Zielinski as a key summer signing and the Gunners are willing to meet his £57m buyout clause to take him to north London.
Arsenal need to rebuild following a poor campaign and whoever replaces Arsene Wenger knows they need several key signings if they’re to compete for major honours next season.

Zielinski would be a good start as the attacking midfielder can play through the middle or out wide and he has huge potential to become a top class player if he’s given the opportunity develop over the coming years.
