Liverpool and Tottenham have been handed a major boost as Bruno Fernandes has decided he wants to leave Sporting Lisbon this summer, according to reports via TeamTalk.
Fernandes only joined Sporting from Sampdoria 12 months ago and he enjoyed a superb debut season at the club having provided 16 goals and 20 assists in all competitions last campaign.
The 23-year-old’s impressive form has caught the attention of clubs here in the Premier League as TeamTalk claim Liverpool and Tottenham have expressed their interest in signing the midfielder.
The duo have now been handed a major boost as the report is citing O Jogo as claiming that Fernandes has decided he wants to leave Sporting after the players were attacked by their own fans on Tuesday.
Sporting ultras attacked the squad after they narrowly missed out on qualifying for the Champions League after finishing third in the table behind Porto and Benfica on the final day of the season.
The report says Fernandes was left ‘terrified’ by the attack – which left striker Bas Dost needing treatment for a head wound – and other players were also left shaken by the horrific incident.
O Jogo claims Fernandes has now decided he wants to leave Sporting this summer so a move to either Liverpool or Tottenham could be on the cards over the coming weeks.
Jurgen Klopp is in the market for attacking reinforcements as he’s yet to sign a replacement for Philippe Coutinho following his January move to Barcelona and Fernandes has emerged as a top target.
Mauricio Pochettino is also expected to strengthen his squad this summer and Fernandes could be viewed as a potential replacement for Mousa Dembele amid speculation he will leave after failing to sign a new contract.
