Liverpool are lining-up a shock swoop to sign Jerome Boateng as Bayern Munich prepare to cash-in on the £40m-rated defender this summer, according to Bild via TeamTalk.
Boateng developed in to one of the best centre-backs in European football at Bayern following his move from Manchester City in 2011 and he’s enjoyed a superb partnership alongside Mats Hummels in recent years.
The German international has made over 250 appearances to help Bayern win a whole host of top honours including 6 Bundesliga titles, 4 domestic cups and the Champions League.
He also helped Germany win the World Cup in 2014 and is expected to be a starter in Joachim Lows side in Russia this summer but it seems he may head in to the tournament with his future at Bayern is in serious doubt.
TeamTalk are citing a report from Bild that claims the Bundesliga champions have informed Boateng that he’s free to find a new club as they prepare to overhaul their squad this summer.
The German publication says that Juan Bernat, Thiago Alcantara, Arturo Vidal and Boateng have all been put up for sale with Bayern ready to cash-in if suitable offers arrive over the coming weeks.
The news has seemingly alerted Jurgen Klopp as Bild, via TeamTalk, claim that the Liverpool boss is now eyeing a move to sign Boateng and is ready to meet Bayern’s £40m asking price.
Boateng is 29-years-old so he still has several years of top level football left in his legs, which makes Bayern’s decision to sell even more curious, but there’s no doubt he’d be a superb signing for Liverpool.
