Liverpool To Open Talks To Sign International Star, Deal Can Be Done At £26m
Liverpool are set to open talks with Lazio over the signing of Thomas Strakosha with the Italians ready to sell if £26.4m is put on the table
The summer transfer window is open and managers are working hard on their transfer targets so we’ll bring you all the latest gossip from around the globe. Today, Liverpool are linked with Thomas Strakosha….
Liverpool are set to open talks with Lazio over the signing of Thomas Strakosha with the Italians ready to sell if £26.4m is put on the table this summer, according to reports in Italy via TeamTalk.
Strakosha has been with Lazio his entire professional career having come through the youth system as a teenager before breaking in to the first team set-up in 2016. The Albanian international has now established himself as Simone Inzaghi’s number one and kept 17 clean sheets in his 53 appearances in all competitions last season.
The 23-year-old’s potential has seemingly caught the attention of Liverpool scouts as TeamTalk are citing a report from Il Messaggero that claims Jurgen Klopp has now made Strakosha his primary goalkeeping transfer target after failing to agree deals for the likes of Alisson Becker, Jan Oblak or Jasper Cillessen.
Klopp is in the market for a new number one as Simon Mignolet is set to leave after falling out of favour last season while Loris Karius’s future is in doubt following his horror-show performance during the Champions League final defeat to Real Madrid.
The Reds had initially targetted a top class keeper such as Alisson or Oblak but they are set to miss out on the Roma and Atletico Madrid stars due to their hefty valuations so it looks like Klopp has now turned his attention to signing Strakosha.
The Italian publication says Liverpool are set to open formal transfer talks with Lazio over a deal to sign their number one and the Serie A outfit have supposedly slapped a £26.4m asking price on his head.
That sort of money shouldn’t deter Liverpool as it’s a lot cheaper than they were being quoted for the likes of Alisson or Oblak so Strakosha could turn out to be a relative bargain in today’s market.
We’ll have to wait and see how negotiations progress once Liverpool do step-up their pursuit but Strakosha appears to have emerged as a top target for the Reds and the 6ft 4in stopper would be a solid addition if they can get a deal agreed.
