Manchester United are ready to try and hijack Tottenham’s attempts to sign Lyon’s £44m-rated midfielder Tanguy Ndombele this summer, according to reports in France via TeamTalk.
Ndombele came through the youth system at Guingamp but made his name at Amiens after breaking in to their first team in 2016 before joining Lyon on an initial one-year load deal last summer.
The 21-year-old enjoyed an excellent campaign at the Groupama Stadium as he made 50 appearances in all competitions to help Lyon finish third in Ligue 1 and clinch a Champions League qualification spot.
Lyon are set to trigger the option to make Ndombele’s move permanent for around £7m ths summer but the French outfit are now under pressure to cash-in and turn a huge profit given the level of interest being shown in the midfielder.
Sky Sports reported earlier this week that Tottenham had expressed their interest in signing Ndombele this summer as Mauricio Pochettino looks for potential replacement for Moussa Dembele amid reports he’s eyeing a move away from north London.
However, Spurs face stiff competition for his signature as TeamTalk cite a report from Le10 Sport that claims Man Utd are now ready to trump their rivals after also registering their interest in signing Ndombele.
Jose Mourinho has already snapped-up Fred from Shakhtar Donetsk but he’s expected to sign another midfielder as Michael Carrick has retired, Marouane Fellaini is set to leave when his contract expires and Ander Herrera is being linked with a move to Spain.
It seems Mourinho has made Ndombele a potential transfer target and Lyon already seem to be planning for life without him after lining-up Strasbourg midfielder Jean-Eudes Aholou as a replacement.

However, United and Spurs will have to be prepared to dig deep as TeamTalk says Ndombele is valued at around £43.8m [€50m] by Lyon so the French U21 international certainly won’t come cheap if he does come to England.
