The summer transfer window is open and managers are working hard on their transfer targets so we’ll bring you all the latest gossip from around the globe. Today, Marco Asensio refuses to rule out joining Liverpool….
Marco Asensio has refused to rule out the possibility of joining Liverpool amid reports the Reds have tabled a sensational £158m offer to Real Madrid, according to a report by TeamTalk.
Asensio joined Madrid from Mallorca in 2014 and he’s developed in to one of the most exciting young attackers in European football over the past four years and he’s now an established part of the Spanish squad having been named in their World Cup squad this summer.
However, the 22-year-old’s future at the Bernabeu is in doubt as he’s failed to hold down a regular starting spot at Madrid and started just 19 La Liga games last season leading to speculation he could seek a move away from the European champions.
With Madrid also being strongly linked with a swoop for Neymar, reports suggest Asensio could be sacrificed to help make room for the Brazilian international and it’s led to rumours of a potential move to Liverpool.
TeamTalk cites a report from Mundo Deportivo over the weekend that claimed Liverpool had submitted a stunning £158m [€180m] bid and Madrid were now considering the offer having knocked back two lower offers in the past.
Asensio has now spoken out amid the rumours of a potential move to Liverpool and refused to rule out a switch to Anfield after saying he will speak with Madrid boss Julen Lopetegui to decide his future after the World Cup.
Speaking after Spain’s 2-2 draw with Morocco, Asensio is quoted by TeamTalk as saying:
“Liverpool? When the World Cup is over, we’ll talk about that sort of thing, now I’m focused on selection.
“I’m glad Julen has signed up for Real Madrid, after the World Cup we’ll talk things over with him.”
Jurgen Klopp is in the market for another attacking midfielder as he’s yet to fill the void left by Philippe Coutinho following his move to Barcelona in January and it seems he’s desperate to land Asensio.

Liverpool were close to signing Nabil Fekir from Lyon but that deal collapsed at the final hour so Klopp is on the look out for alternatives and Asensio would be a sensational signing if they could pull it off.
