Tottenham are the clear favourites to sign Jack Grealish after Liverpool ended their interest in signing the want-away Aston Villa midfielder this summer, according to the Mirror.
Grealish has been with Villa his entire career after joining the clubs youth academy as a child and he’s progressed through the ranks to become an important first team player at Villa Park. The 22-year-old played a key role in Villa’s promotion push last season before they eventually lost to Fulham in the Championship play-off final at Wembley.
The England Under-21 international is now expected to leave his boyhood team this summer and the Mirror claim that Grealish has decided to push for a move after being urged by John Terry to join a Premier League club in order to fulfill his potential.
Villa are in no position to hang on to the talented midfielder as they are on the brink of bankruptcy so the Midlands club are expected to cash-in on Grealish to help balance the books – although TeamTalk reported earlier this month that Villa will still demand around £40m for his signature.
The situation has alerted top flight clubs with TeamTalk claiming that Liverpool were hoping to hijack Tottenham’s attempts to sign Grealish as Jurgen Klopp looks to further strengthen his squad to help the Reds compete on all fronts next season.
However, the Mirror claim that Tottenham are now the clear favourites to sign Grealish as Liverpool are no longer expected to bid for the player after Klopp turned his attention to other targets.
The newspaper says Spurs chairman Daniel Levy is yet to make a firm offer but Grealish expects the north Londoners to formalise their interest and offer him a bumper five-year contract that will see his current £20,000-a-week salary significantly increase.

Mauricio Pochettino is expected to strengthen his squad this summer following another encouraging campaign that saw Tottenham qualify for the Champions League and Grealish would provide competition for the likes of Dele Alli if he moves to north London.
