The summer transfer window is open and managers are working hard on their transfer targets so we’ll bring you all the latest gossip from around the globe. Today, Liverpool are set to sign Xherdan Shaqiri…
Liverpool are expected to confirm the signing of Tottenham target Xherdan Shaqiri from Stoke City after the World Cup, according to the Independent.
Shaqiri came through the youth ranks at Basel before making a move to Bayern Munich in 2012 and he helped the German giants win a whole host of trophies including 2 Bundesliga titles and the Champions League.
A disappointing 6-month spell at Inter Milan led to Shaqiri joining Stoke in 2015 and the Switzerland international has been a solid signing for the Potters after providing 15 goals and 15 assists in his 92 appearances in all competitions.
However, he wasn’t able to prevent Stoke from being relegated to the Championship last season after they finished 19th in the Premier League and now Shaqiri is expected to leave the Bet365 Stadium this summer.
Understandably, there has been no shortage of interest and the Express reported recently that Liverpool are confident of beating Tottenham to the signing of Shaqiri – who’s for just £13m due to a relegation release clause in his contract.
Mauricio Pochettino is looking to strengthen his squad after another encouraging campaign in north London and Shaqiri would provide Tottenham with another top class option in the final third if he moved to White Hart Lane.
However, it seems Spurs are set to miss out as the Independent claims that Liverpool are expected to confirm Shaqiri’s arrival at Anfield after he’s finished representing Switzerland at the World Cup.
The 26-year-old scored a crucial last minute winner during a 2-1 victory over Serbia last Friday to help the Swiss book their place in the last-16 in Russia and they’ll now face Sweden for a place in the quarter finals.

Jurgen Klopp is in the market for attacking reinforcements as he needs to add depth behind the likes of Mohamed Salah and Sadio Mane and I think Shaqiri would be a shrewd piece of business if Liverpool do end up getting a £13m wrapped-up.
