Man Utd Open Transfer Talks For Serie A Star As Mourinho Eyes 4th Signing

The summer transfer window is open and managers are working hard on their transfer targets so we’ll bring you all the latest gossip from around the globe. Today, Man Utd are linked with Mario Mandzukic…

Manchester United have opened transfer talks with Juventus over a deal to sign Mario Mandzukic as Jose Mourinho looks to strengthen his attack this summer, according to report in Italy via TeamTalk.

Mourinho has already snapped-up goalkeeper Lee Grant from Stoke, right-back Diogo Dalot from Porto and midfielder Fred from Shkahtar Donetsk this summer but the United boss knows he needs to further strengthen if they’re to compete with Manchester City having finished 19 points adrift of their rivals last season.

Romelu Lukaku enjoyed an excellent debut season at Old Trafford following his big-money move from Everton last summer but Mourinho was heavily reliant on the Belgian international up front with Marcus Rashford rarely trusted with a run-out in the central striking position.

It looks like Mourinho is now hoping to bring in another forward option this summer as TeamTalk are citing a report from CalcioMercato that claims the Portuguese coach has identified Mandzukic as a key transfer target.

The Italian publication says United have now opened talks with Juventus over a deal to sign the experienced striker and the Red Devils are prepared to use Matteo Darmian as bait to land Mandzukic this summer.

The 32-year-old has been one of the most effective target-men in Europe in recent years and enjoyed spells at Wolfsburg, Bayern Munich and Atletico Madrid before joining Juventus in 2015.

The Croatian international has helped the Old Lady win 3 Serie A titles and 4 domestic cups during his time in Italy while he’s also been a key player for his country with 31 goals in his 86 caps so far.

I think he’d be a solid addition to the United squad if they could get a deal agreed as Mandzukic would provide Mourinho with a ‘Plan B’ from the bench if they were struggling to break teams down or chasing a goal.

However, any potential deal will have to wait as Mandzukic is preparing for Croatia’s huge World Cup quarter final with Russia after scoring during their last-16 win over Denmark on Sunday.
