£54m Star Flying To London To Undergo Chelsea Medical After Snubbing Man Utd

The summer transfer window is drawing to a close and managers are working hard to secure last minute deals so we’ll bring you all the latest gossip from around the globe. Today, Mateo Kovacic is set to undergo his medical with Chelsea….

Real Madrid midfielder Mateo Kovacic is flying to London this morning to undergo his medical with Chelsea after snubbing an approach from Manchester United, according to the Sun.

Kovacic joined Madrid from Inter Milan three years ago but has struggled to establish himself as a first team regular and was restricted to making just 10 starts last season with the likes of Toni Kroos, Luka Modric and Casemiro all ahead of him in the pecking order.

The Croatian international expressed his desire to leave the Bernabeu in search of regular football earlier in the summer and he’s reportedly refused to train or play for the European champions again in a bid to force through a move this summer.

The situation alerted clubs in the Premier League and the Sun reported earlier this week Manchester United were hoping to beat Chelsea to Kovacic’s signature but the midfielder snubbed their advances as he didn’t want to play under Jose Mourinho at Old Trafford.

This paved the way for Chelsea to swoop in and TeamTalk reported on Tuesday that the Blues have agreed a deal that will see Kovacic move to west London on an initial season long loan with Chelsea having the option to pay £53.5m to make the move permanent next summer.

The Sun now claim that Kovacic is travelling to London on Wednesday morning to undergo his medical and unless there are any late complications, the transfer could be announced by the end of the day.

Maurizio Sarri has already splashed out on Jorginho this summer but the new Chelsea boss admitted last week he wants another midfielder to play alongside the Italian and N’Golo Kante in the middle of the park.

It seems Kovacic will be that player and the Croatian star could prove to be an excellent piece of business by the Blues as he has bags of talent and was considered to be one of the best young prospects in Europe during his time at Inter.

It’s going to be a busy couple of days at Chelsea as they are also on the verge of signing goalkeeper Kepa from Athletic Bilbao which will pave the way for Thibaut Courtois to complete his proposed move to Madrid.
