Manchester City will look to continue their winning start to the new Premier League season when they take on newly-promoted Wolves at Molineux this lunchtime.

Pep Guardiola’s men stormed their way to a record-breaking title last season and they are the red-hot favourites to retain the trophy this year after opening the campaign with two impressive wins.

City eased to a 2-0 victory at Arsenal on the opening weekend before thrashing Huddersfield 6-1 at the Etihad last week so it looks like the Citizens will once again be the team to beat this season.

Wolves ran away with the Championship title last year to gain automatic promotion to the top flight but they’ve taken just one point from their first two games having lost away to Leicester following their 2-2 draw with Everton.

The Midlands club did hold City to a shock 0-0 draw over 120 minutes in the Carabao Cup last season so boss Nuno Espirito Santo will be looking to secure another positive result this afternoon.

Team news

City have been dealt a major injury blow with the news that Kevin de Bruyne has been ruled out for three months with a knee ligament injury while second-choice goalkeeper Claudio Bravo is facing six months out after rupturing an Achilles tendon.

Fernandinho has recovered from a knock but Danilo remains out with an ankle injury.

Wolves have virtually a fully-fit squad to choose from with only Ivan Cavaleiro absent with a back problem.

Confirmed Line-ups

Wolves:

Patricio, Coady, Bennett, Boly, Doherty, Neves, Moutinho, Jonny, Jota, Jimenez, Costa.

Subs: Gibbs-White, John Ruddy, Saiss, Ruben Vinagre, Hause, Leo Bonatini, Traore

Man City:

Ederson, Walker, Kompany, Laporte, Mendy, Fernandinho, Sterling, Gundogan, Silva, Bernardo, Aguero

Subs: Sane, Stones, Delph, Muric, Mahrez, Jesus, Otamendi,

Predicted Score

Wolves 1-2 Man City: The League Cup draw last season will give Wolves confidence but I can’t see past a City win today. They’ve lost just one of their last 29 games against newly-promoted sides and they’ve won each of their last seven away games. Wolves have been unlucky so far this season but I fancy City to edge it 2-1 and take home another three points.
