Tottenham’s Premier League title credentials will be severely tested when top-of-the-table Liverpool head to Wembley Stadium this weekend.

Spurs started the season in superb fashion as they beat Newcastle United and Fulham before thrashing Manchester United 3-0 at Old Trafford in late August to make it three wins on the spin.

However, the north Londoners saw their 100 percent record come to an abrupt end with a 2-1 defeat to Watford at Vicarage Road last time out so Mauricio Pochettino will be desperate to get back to winning ways on Saturday.

Tottenham will be up against high-flying Liverpool with Jurgen Klopp’s men sitting top of the table having racked up victories over West Ham, Crystal Palace, Brighton and Leicester City so far this season.

Liverpool are most pundits favourites to compete with Manchester City for the title this season and they can cement that reputation with another win on Saturday, but a win for Spurs will certainly throw their name into the title mix.

Head to head

The Reds drew 2-2 with Spurs at Anfield last season and tasted a 4-1 defeat in the corresponding fixture at Wembley but no doubt the Merseysiders will be confident of taking away a more positive result this time around.

The two clubs have met 52 times with Liverpool running out victors on 23 occasions so they’ve certainly enjoyed the better of things over the years. However, 12 of Tottenham’s 14 wins in this fixture have come on home soil so the Londoners will be hoping to build on that record on Saturday.

Betting odds

The Tottenham vs Liverpool betting odds for this game make for interesting reading as the bookmakers are expecting a close match. Liverpool are 7/5 to take home the three points while Tottenham can be backed at odds of 9/5.

Liverpool have only conceded one goal so far this season but they’ll do well to keep out Harry Kane’s Tottenham for ninety minutes. Equally, I’m expecting Mohamed Salah, Roberto Firmino and Sadio Mane to cause Tottenham plenty of problems so there should be goals in this game. Over 3.5 match goals at odds of 8/5 looks tempting.

The draw is available at 13/5 and I think that seems a sensible bet. A 2-2 draw can be backed at 10/1 and that would be my recommended bet for this game. However, for those looking for even more value, throw-in Firmino as first goalscorer in a 2-2 draw for odds of 29/1.
