Danny Welbeck scored twice while Alexandre Lacazette wrapped things up to secure Arsenal a 3-1 victory over Brentford in the Carabao Cup at the Emirates tonight.
Arsenal started the game well and opened the scoring early on as Danny Welbeck was left free to head home from a pin-point Matteo Guendouzi corner to make it 1-0 in the 5th minute.
Welbeck was then on the end of a superb team move that started with Bernd Leno and finished with Nacho Monreal crossing for the England international to tap home from 10 yards to make it 2-0 shortly before half-time.
Brentford pulled one back in the 58th minute as Alan Judge fired home a superb free-kick from 20 yards to make it 2-1 after Guendouzi stupidly gave away a needless foul on the edge of the area.
However, as the Championship pushed for an equaliser Lacazette came off the bench to wrap things up with the Frenchman lashing home in stoppage time to make it 3-1 and book Arsenal’s place in the fourth round draw.
