Team news: Liverpool confirm triple injury boost but key man out of Wolves clash
Liverpool have confirmed a triple injury boost ahead of Sunday’s clash with Wolves but a key player will miss the season finale.
Liverpool need to beat Wolves at Anfield on Sunday afternoon to stand any chance of pipping Manchester City to the Premier League title on the final day of the season.
Ahead of the game, Jurgen Klopp has been speaking to the media at his pre-match press conference this morning and he’s offered a full team news and injury update including the latest on the fitness of Andrew Robertson, Jordan Henderson, Mohamed Salah and Roberto Firmino.
Robertson emerged as a doubt for Sunday’s game after being forced off at half-time with a calf problem during Liverpool’s sensational Champions League victory over Barcelona on Tuesday night.
Jordan Henderson also picked up a knee problem during the opening forty-five minutes but the Liverpool skipper was able to soldier on to complete the full ninety minutes against the Catalan giants.
However, it seems the duo will take on Wolves as Klopp has suggested that Robertson and Henderson are ready to push through the pain barrier to make themselves available for selection this weekend.
Salah was forced to miss the stunning win over Barca after suffering concussion during the win at Newcastle last weekend but Klopp has confirmed the forward will return to training today so should be back in contention to face Wolves.
However, Liverpool will continue to be without the services of Firmino on the final day of the season as the Brazilian international is still nursing a groin issue but Klopp is confident he’ll be fit to face Tottenham in the Champions League final.
The Reds boss told Liverpoolfc.com:
“The famous three words of this week in the dressing room: ‘It’s only pain.’ Very important for all the young lads to learn, I’ve said that already to the boys. Hendo said, ‘It’s only pain’, Robbo said, ‘It’s only pain’ – but it was real pain, wow!
“Unfortunately, Robbo could deal with the pain but only the rest of his body couldn’t because he couldn’t really activate the muscle anymore, some nerve hit or whatever.
“They should be fine [for Sunday].
“Bobby not [available] for the weekend, but we have time [before the Champions League final] and that should be enough.
“Mo looked good around the celebrations after the game, to be honest! The day before yesterday and yesterday he was running outside and will be part of training today.”
So Liverpool should have a strong squad available this weekend as they look to beat Wolves and hope Brighton do them a favour against Man City to snatch the title on the final day of the season.
