Man Utd star in race to face Liverpool after full extent of injury is revealed

Paul Pogba is facing a race against time to be fit for Manchester United’s showdown with Liverpool at Old Trafford as he’s nursing a cracked toe, according to L’Equipe via the Daily Star.
Pogba has been carrying a foot injury for several weeks and was forced to miss United’s defeat to Newcastle United at St James’ Park last weekend and the draw with AZ Alkmaar three days earlier after aggravating the issue against Arsenal.
Prior to the 1-1 draw with the Gunners late last month, Pogba had played in the Carabao Cup clash with Rochdale where it’s believed he suffered the injury but the pain worsened against Arsenal forcing him to miss the next two games.
The exact nature of the injury wasn’t made public, however, the Daily Star are citing a report from L’Equipe that claims a source close to Pogba has confirmed the midfielder has sustained a minor crack to one of his toes.
The news outlet says Manchester United are confident the injury isn’t serious and have decided against surgery as they hope a period of rest will be enough to cure the issue once and for all.
However, L’Equipe says Pogba needed seven days of inactivity after suffering the injury at the end of September and will now need between two and three weeks of rehabilitation before he’ll be available for selection.
That time-frame means the 26-year-old is facing a race against time to get himself fit for United’s huge showdown with north-west rivals Liverpool at Old Trafford on October 20th after the international break.
Pogba has been posting videos of himself on social media working out in Dubai after flying to the UAE to undergo his rehab in a warm-weather climate in order to help speed up his recovery.
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer will be praying the Frenchman makes a speedy recovery and is fit to face Liverpool as United struggle for creativity in the middle of the park when Pogba isn’t in the team.
Solskjaer is under increasing pressure to turn Man Utd’s season around following a poor run of results and they’ll need Pogba firing on all cylinders if they are to get a result against Liverpool – who’ve opened up an eight point lead at the top of the table.
