Liverpool vs Arsenal: Betting preview ahead of Premier League clash at Anfield

jurgen klopp liverpool 2020

Premier League champions Liverpool entertain Arsenal in a heavyweight clash at Anfield on Monday night.

Liverpool have made the perfect start to the new 2020/21 season as they followed up a 4-3 victory over newly-promoted Leeds Utd on the opening weekend with an impressive 2-0 win over Chelsea at Stamford Bridge on Sunday.

Jurgen Klopp’s men will be looking to continue their winning start to the new campaign with victory over Arsenal on Monday as the Merseysiders try to defend their title and make it back-to-back Premier League triumphs.

However, Liverpool will be up against another club who’ve enjoyed a 100 per cent start to the season as Arsenal have successfully taken six points from their opening games against Fulham and West Ham.

Mikel Arteta salvaged something from a disappointing 2019/20 season by beating Chelsea in the FA Cup final while he also won the Community Shield win a penalty shoot-out win over Liverpool so he’ll be quietly confident of getting something from Anfield.

Betting odds

As expected, the bookmakers have Liverpool priced as the 4/9 favourites to win this game while Arsenal can be backed at odds of 5/1. An away win may be unrealistic given how formidable Liverpool are at Anfield but the draw is available at 18/5 if you think Arsenal can get something from the game.

There is usually plenty of goals in this fixture so Over 3.5 match goals looks a solid bet at odds of 5/4. Liverpool should prove to be too strong for the Gunners and a 3-1 home win can be backed at odds of 9/1.

Team news

Liverpool are set to be without skipper Jordan Henderson after he picked up a thigh injury while Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain will miss out against his former club due to an on-going knee problem.

Joel Matip is also still out with a knock while Joe Gomez remains a doubt with a knee injury that kept him out of the Chelsea game so Fabinho could keep his place alongside Virgil van Dijk in the middle of defence.

Arsenal have plenty of injury problems of their own as Gabriel Martinelli, Pablo Mari, Sokratis, Shkodran Mustafi and Calum Chambers all remain on the sidelines.

Kieran Tierney is also facing a race against time to prove his fitness after missing the last two games with a hip problem so Arteta has selection issues to contend with heading to Anfield.

Prediction

It’s been a long time since Arsenal won at Anfield in the Premier League and I don’t think they’ll end that run on Monday as Liverpool have a long unbeaten record on home soil. Arteta has the Gunners more organised but Liverpool should have too much for them in the end. We’re predicting a 3-1 home win. Liverpool 3-1 Arsenal
