Liverpool submit formal offer to sign Yankuba Minteh

Liverpool have submitted a formal offer to Brighton & Hove Albion to sign Gambian international winger Yankuba Minteh this summer, as per David Ornstein.
Minteh has established himself as one of the Premier League’s most exciting wingers since joining Brighton from Newcastle United in the summer of 2024.
Several clubs were already courting him during his loan at Feyenoord, where he netted 11 goals and provided five assists, before the Seagulls beat competition to secure his signature.
The 22-year-old wasted no time adapting to English football, providing 12 goal contributions, including a memorable goal and assist at Old Trafford in the 3-1 win over Manchester United on January 19, 2025.
While the numbers dropped last season to just seven in all competitions, Minteh was a constant threat in Fabian Hurzelar’s attack and even produced a man-of-the-match display in the 2-1 win over Liverpool on March 21, 2026.
It’s no surprise Liverpool are now interested in him, with David Ornstein reporting that Liverpool have submitted a formal offer to Brighton for the potential transfer of Minteh to Anfield this summer.
Relentless forward
Writing on The Athletic, Ornstein adds that the Reds’ initial £50m offer was rebuffed by the Seagulls, leading the club to submit an improved £60m offer for the 22-year-old.
However, despite Liverpool’s improved offer, the transfer expert says Brighton have once again rejected it and are holding out for around £70m to sanction Minteh’s departure.
Last season, Minteh ranked high among Brighton players for successful dribbles, registering a 53.7% success rate.
He also ranked third among wingers in the Premier League for runs in behind the opposition defence, averaging 5.12 per match. That is particularly relevant to Iraola, whose football is built around verticality and stretching opposition back lines.
His work without the ball is equally impressive. Iraola demands intensity and aggression in the press, and Minteh’s athleticism lets him repeatedly sprint and apply pressure high up the pitch. He was part of a Brighton side that recorded a league-high 192 final-third possession regains last season, surpassing even champions Arsenal, who managed 179.
With his combination of pace, directness, relentless pressing and ability to stretch defences, Minteh would be a strong stylistic fit for Iraola, offering the former Bournemouth boss a dynamic attacking outlet capable of influencing games both in and out of possession.
