Man Utd’s 4-man shortlist revealed as Red Devils target new left-back

Manchester United have shortlisted Borussia Dortmund’s Daniel Svensson among their left-back targets, with Crystal Palace’s Tyrick Mitchell, Club Brugge’s Joaquin Seys and Barcelona’s Alejandro Balde being added as alternatives, as per TEAMtalk.
There was a growing belief last summer that United were going to sign a new left-back. The departure of Tyrell Malacia as a free agent further heightened their need to sign a new fullback, but the club closed business after bolstering their midfield with three new additions.
To their credit, they were linked with several left-back options and even made enquiries over a deadline-day move for Manchester City’s Rayan Ait-Nouri.
Now, five games into the Premier League season, questions are being raised over whether it was the right decision not to sign someone in that position.
The club have looked vulnerable in that area despite having Luke Shaw and Patrick Dorgu as well as the versatile Noussair Mazraoui as available options, and it’s no surprise they’re now looking to reinforce there in 2027.
According to TEAMtalk, United are considering whether to fast-track their efforts to sign a new left-back in January and are keeping tabs on several options.
One of the left-back options United are looking at is Dortmund’s Svensson, as per the report, which claims that Michael Carrick’s side have placed the 24-year-old on their radar ahead of a possible move.
Shortlist
In a previous report, TEAMtalk revealed that the Red Devils have formally entered the race to sign the Swedish international from Dortmund, who have placed a £30-39m valuation on their key player.
However, in a recent interview on SVT Sport, the Swede was questioned about interest from top Premier League clubs but revealed nothing has materialised as of yet
He said, ‘I saw something about it. But I haven’t heard anything more about [it]. Of course, it can be fun to read.
‘There was nothing concrete, and I had not heard anything more than what was in the newspaper. I am happy in Dortmund and look forward to continuing my journey there.’
When asked if he was close to joining another club in the summer, Svensson added, ‘No, not at all, quite honestly.’
Amid Svensson’s response and indication he is happy at Dortmund, it appears United are exploring possible alternatives, with TEAMtalk adding that the Premier League giants have shortlisted Palace’s Mitchell, Barcelona’s Balde and Brugge’s highly rated youngster Seys among their left-back targets.
Man Utd will hope to record their first domestic victory in four games when they host bottom-placed Tottenham Hotspur at Old Trafford on Saturday, 10th October.
