[Player Ratings] Five-Star Ar52nal Stun 5pur2 – Here’s How They Rated

Arsenal beat rivals Tottenham 5-2 at the Emirates after a stunning comeback from 2-0 down inspired by Rosicky & RVP. Here are my player ratings from the game.

Before i start, for any Tottenham fans reading this, i’m an Arsenal fan who writes on Football-Talk and i will make no apologies for my biased views!

We were superb today. In all departments. The second half was the best we’ve played all season in my opinion. So much hunger. So much desire to win the ball back and then get forward. This was the real Ar52nal. (Not sure if this really works but i’m gonna go with it!)

5pur2 opener was poor defending, but lets be honest, the finish was extremely lucky with the deflection the only reason it ended up in the net. Then came a typical dive from Bale. If he wasn’t British he’d get hammered by the media. Worst and most consistent diver in the league, by a mile.

So 2-0 down and you’d be forgiven to think Ar52nal would crumble given the week we’ve had. But we showed really guts to come back and completely dominate the team sitting third in the table. 5-2 didn’t really flatter us and we could have scored more.

Here are my player ratings from today. Well done Gooners, more of the same next week at Anfield!

Arsenal Ratings:

Szczesny – 7 – Could do nothing about the opener but should have come off his line quicker to close down Bale when he burst through before taking a disgusting dive. Made a couple of good saves though.

Sagna – 7 – Great header got us back in it but his crossing could have been better. A consistent performance as ever from the Frenchman.

Vermaelen – 7 – Was unlucky with the Spurs opener with Saha’s shot deflecting off his leg and past Szczesny, but he did look a little suspect in the opening 15 minutes. But settled into the game and was back to his dominant best in the second half.

Koscielny – 7.5 – Intercepted everything, broke down moves and competed well with Adebayor in the air. A rock throughout.

Gibbs – 6.5 – Failed to cover Vermaelen during the build up to the opener, and didn’t do enough to stop the rampaging Bale before the dive. But played his part going forward and was involved in the build up for the Sagna goal.

Song – 8 – Much better, more like the Song we’ve seen over the last  couple of years. Was everywhere

Arteta – 8.5 – His stats: 93% pass accuracy, 3 key passes, 1 assist, 4 accurate long balls, 5 tackles. Superb. Ran the game in the middle of the park and lovely cross set up Sagna for the first goal.

Rosicky – 9.5 – His best game in recent memory. Was everywhere and along with Arteta, ran the midfield with some lovely intricate passing and incisive play, and scored a superb goal. Definitely a better option than Ramsey in the ‘hole’ position behind RVP. Pushed the Dutchman close for MOTM.

Walcott – 8 – Theo had a stinker in the first half but he is always a threat and showed it again today with two well taken goals. Hopefully that will give him the confidence to push on for the rest of the season.

Benayoun – 7.5 – A surprise starter but it worked as he gave a lovely balance to the midfield and complemented our passing game well. Yossi also worked hard to break up play and covered Gibbs well when required.

Van Persie – 9.5 – Stunning all-round performance. Held the ball up superbly, lovely assist for Theo and his goal was world class. Just about deserved MOTM but tough to separate him from Rosicky.

Jenkinson – 6.5 – Slotted in a left back but didn’t have to much to do other than keep things solid and see out the game.

Chamberlain – 6 – Only on for 10 minutes in place of Theo and saw little of the ball. Will be more NLD’s for him in the future.

Gervinho – n/a – Only on for a matter of minutes.

For those who’re interested, here are my ratings for the Tottenham team:

Friedel (6), Walker (6), King (6.5), Kaboul (5), Ekotto (5.5), Parker (4), Modric (6), Bale (3), Kranjcar (5), Saha (5), Adebayor (5). SUBS: Van der Vaart (5), Sandro (4), Dawson (6).

Watch all the goals here if you haven’t seen them or relive the masterclass performance again here: Ar52nal 5-2 Tottenham

I’m an Arsenal fan and this is rubbish. Theo wasn’t great at all just took 21 chances which any player claiming to be a striker should. Benayoun was far better and Rosicky was clear MOTM. Also Parker was one of Spurs’ best players

Reaz, Theo had a very good second half that included scoring two very well taken goals, he clearly deserves a higher rating than Yossi. Like i said, Rosicky and RVP in my opinion were the two best players. It was close between them who was MOTM.

And Parker? He got completely dominated for 87 minutes by the Arsenal midfield, gave away numerous free kicks and was sent off. Yeah, he had a great game mate. Thanks for commenting.

RVP10. Good result for Arsenal but this reporting is so bias it loses any credibility. I agree with Reaz’s comments. Bale 3 – come on!!!

          February 26, 2012 at 8:41 pm

Oh for god sake people, of course im going to be biased. I’m an Arsenal fan, and as i stated at the start, i make no apologies for my biased views.

          And i gave Bale a 3 based purely on the fact he’s a diving c*nt. If he didn’t dive, he’d have got a 6.

          Jeez, people need to relax!!!

LOL, “game won”?!?! So the game was won at 3-2? You seem to have a very short memory and clearly know nothing about football Mr Johnson if you think a match is won with the score at 3-2 in the 51st minute.

FFS, we were 4-2 up in the 89th minute two seasons ago and 2-0 up at half time against Spurs last season and didn’t win either game. Muppet.

Theo proved to be a great second half impact player. Had a great match but, 8 is definetely too much. He was invisible in the first half. 7 from me. Yossi was outstanding – 8.5, no less. RVP was simply great, but the real difference was in the midfield. I would put Theo as MOTM, just because of impact. But without efforts from YB, TR, AS and of course MA we wouldn’t be able to see Spuds spanked that much.

Your comment makes no sense. If theo should be MOTM then surely he should have the highest rating by your own admission. Anyway good win today, restored some much needed pride for our great club.

Hw can u say theo is d MOTM. He is simply overgraded,he shd av scored 6. He ddnt play well in d 55mins of d game, no accurate passes, no assist, out of position expecially first half. He tried 4his second bt needs 2b more sharper

    • RVP10

      February 26, 2012 at 9:10 pm

What do you people want?! Theo is an impact player. He will never be the sort to be heavily involved in the build-up play, he’s not a technical player who play’s intricate passing, or anything like that, he is simply a dangerman who likes to get in behind opposition defenses and get shots off or put the ball in the box.

He scored 2 goals today and went close on another 2 occasions. He more than did his job.

FFS, you just cant please some fans!

Why the argument? What impression do you want to give the 5pur2 fan? Let’s get behind our player and cheer them up, even if it was Arsene Wenger he called the MOTM let’s accept and look forward… Come on you Arsenal fans and cheer the boys up!

It’s a suprise package for me on my birthday. Am glad me did more than thrashing to the SPUDS today.
Imagine, I share date with Adebayor. Hmmm. . .
But must he alwaz taunt us?

Why when Theo gets even the smallest bit of his confidence back do people including Arsenal fans give him a hard time, had it have been any other player the world would have been singing there praises and that player gsme would have improoved as the rest of the season went on, it just seems to me that Theo is fighting his confidence arsenal fans non-arsenal fans and the press!!! I will admit he does under perform more often than not but thats because even when he plays well people get on his back! I think its because we all know he can be better but lets get behind him and support him, he is english after all and we should all want him to be fighting for a place in the england squad to give the next england manager a good problem in deciding who plays down the wing or up front!!!!

How did King get 6.5 more of a 2 and only gave him a 2 because he managed to find his way to the Emirates. Your Arsenal ratings are spot on.

    February 26, 2012 at 11:55 pm

Sagna maybe should have scored higher and pushed both RVP and Rosicky for MOTM. We have really missed Sagna this season.

  13. lordgunner

    February 27, 2012 at 12:01 am

Rosicky was easily our best player today, create, score and hard work follow by benny.
Theo may have score 2 goal (good for him….and us) i still think he isnt arsenal standard too many waste ball and lost one.with a better skill he would have score/create 3-4 more goal today

Bale deserve his 4 ,until his dive to win a penalty i dont know he was on the pitch.
Anyone saw adebayor ,i think spurs lost him in koscielny and tommy v pocket

Theo Walcott is no good. I will cheer on the other but not him

    • Dominic

      February 27, 2012 at 8:35 am

ow can you say he’s no good when he scored 2 good goals that wrapped the game up? Yes he is inconsistent and needs to perform at this level more regularly. But no good? you’re wrong.

    • kinggunner

      February 27, 2012 at 12:15 pm

come on u call yourself an arsenal fan when u dislike your own player, and in fact a player that scored two goals? What more do u want? I think u should support tottenham instead so that when they score u will be easily pleased. dickhead.

Sagna – an easy 8. What more could he do?

Great win. More improtantly, we must keep this fighting spirit and will to win into the next games.

    February 27, 2012 at 3:18 am

Patty, I gave Theo MOTM because of his 2 goals. He scored them in his own manner. Imagine the scenario of 3-2 after great TR goal and most of second half ahead. He would be 8.5 if he’d played only second half. But overall it’s difficult to point personally – the whole team was one amazing unit.

I must have been watching a different game. Yossi was a waste of space. He had one good shot and was pushed off the ball everytime. A 4 at best. We won and won well but lets be realistic with the ratings!

  21. Hopefulgunner

    February 27, 2012 at 8:46 am

These ratings are a bit ott. In the openind 25mins we should have conceded many more than 2 goals, atreta and song we’re either to far forwar or getting in the defenders way, and when they both play deep they get confused they either both attack or both defend, no understanding. We just need one CDM (SONG) arteta needs to disrupt play in their half

  22. Nkusuny

    February 27, 2012 at 9:18 am

The most important thing is that we won the game. Walcott is a young player that’s still coming up and a big occasion player! Remember chelsea? My motm is Rosicky! Asokoto was the flop of the match.
