However the game did not live up to the hype. Both teams seem to cancel each other out looked nervous about the result of this game. A win for Chelsea and the gap between them and spurs would be closed to two points and a win for Tottenham would put them in the driving seat with an eight point cushion.

A very dull first half a talking point was Van der Vaarts double effort which was smartly saved by Cech and cleared by Ashley cole. First half 0:0

Chelsea pressed in the second half with a bit more determination and more desire to get that needed goal. A Mata free kick crashed against the post much to the disappointment of the home support.

Despite Chelsea’s best efforts, it was Spurs who had the better chance’s to claim victory with both Gallas and Adebayor going close. Gareth Bale also sent a header at goal this time it crashed against Cech’s bar. The game seemed destined for a stalemate.

Chelsea where arguably the better side but both sets of players seemed anxious to lose. The game ended goalless probably favouring Harry Redknapps side who remain five points ahead with eight to play. Chelsea still have games against Arsenal and Liverpool to come, so have it all to do to secure Champions League football next season.
