[Player Ratings] Wigan 1-0 Man Utd: Poor Reds Slip Up At The DW

By on April 12, 2012

Manchester United let rivals Manchester City back in the title race after losing 1-0 to Wigan at the DW Stadium on Wednesday night.

United went into the game eight points clear of City and with a faultless record against Wigan, winning 13 out of their previous 13 games, they were expected to maintain that advantage going into the final five games of the season.

However, Sir Alex Ferguson’s side produced a lacklustre performance and went down 1-0 after Shaun Maloney curled home a superb second half winner.

But lets not take anything away from Roberto Martinez’s side, they were excellent and fully deserved their win, and they have now given themselves a great chance of surviving the drop.

The result, combined with Man City’s 4-0 thumping of WBA, means United’s lead is now down to just five points.
