The agent of Arsenal midfielder Alex Song has dismissed reports linking his client with a move to Italian giants Inter Milan, according to Sky Sports News.
The report claims that Inter are on the look out for a defensive midfielder and have identified Song as a potential signing after his impressive performances for the Gunners this season.
However, Song’s agent Christophe Mongai is quoted by Sky Sports News as saying he has had no contact with anyone at Inter.
“I don’t know anything about these rumours but I can assure you that I’ve never had contact with (Inter sporting director Marco) Branca or with the other Inter leaders,”
Mongain went on to say that although his client has desires to play in Italy at one stage in his career, he expects him to remain at Arsenal next season due to his importance to the team. When asked if Song wanted to play in Italy, Mongain said.
“Yes, but Alex is one of the most important Arsenal players as is clear from the fact that Wenger always starts him. So I don’t think the Gunners are going to sell him during the summer transfer window.” Mongain is quoted as saying by Sky Sports News
Song has two years left on his current deal but Arsenal are believed to be keen on tying the Cameroonian midfielder down to a new long-term contract this summer. The 24-year-old has become an integral part of Arsene Wengers side this season after moving to the Emirates from Bastia in 2005.
I would hate to see Songinho leave the club this summer. He’s grown into a fine player and should be regarded as an important part of our future. Let’s tie him down to a new contract this summer, add two or three players and we’re set for next season.
What do Gooners think? Should we consider selling Song if Inter coming knocking?
